Over 20 years ago, I was in Dallas for a convention and happened to go into a bookstore to look around.  At the same time, I had assumed the responsibility for growing sales in an organization with six or seven salespeople including myself.  As a team we were generating somewhere around six to seven million dollars in revenue.  The plan was to take me off the street and make me the "sales manager".  What a mistake that turned out to be !  I was a very successful salesperson but I wasn't a good sales manager.
